Every time I peruse the European auction sites and run across wartime L-35s I think of you. They're much more common across the pond but sadly not much cheaper. To make purchasing out of Europe work you have to find a way to absorb roughly $800 in shipping and import costs. And in the end you have a firearm with an import mark, no way around it. But I enjoy seeing stuff listed that's crazy rare here.

If you know the routine & paperwork you can import them on your FFL-03 for your personal collection without having to add an import mark.

-You know I investigated going down that route early on but wasn't comfortable acting as an importer. For this to work using a commercial importer I realized you would want to pick up 3-4 pistols at prices good enough that adding $200 to the unit cost wouldn't break the bank. And for items where cost takes a back seat to filling a hole in the collection then the roughly $800 total in shipping and import costs isn't all that bad. Items like FN 1903s can be had relatively cheap in Europe. I can within a wisker of getting a FN 1903 shoulder stock rig with the crazy rare 10 round mag but got zapped by a deeper pocket bidder. In retrospect I should have sucked it up and kept on going as I doubt I'll ever see that combo again in my lifetime.

-BTW, Kessler, the Swiss gun auction house, is having an auction tomorrow, Sat. 11/14/20. Fun to watch. I've been tempted to go after Swiss Schmidt Rubin Kadets which bring around $700 here in the US but go cheap in Switzerland. There's a half dozen or so up for sale in this catalog. But I have my eyes on something else here in the US that I've been chasing for a decade without success and want to save funds to make a serious go of it. We'll see!
-If you want to access Kessler's catalog online it's available at both AuctionZip and Invaluable (both owned by the same company). I"m bidding on a Swiss Luger accessory, we'll see how that goes. And just for giggles, MMB Imports, based here in MD, routinely works with Kessler so getting Margie to import something from one of their auctions is easy.
