I picked up a Winchester Model 1894 that was manufactured in 1897. The rifle is a saddle ring carbine. It looks like a previous owner put on a rifle length rear sight, with no elevator. The rear sight is so long it touches the receiver and wouldn't allow for an elevator. At least, that's what it looks like to me. I've been trying to find out what a carbine sight for this age carbine looks like, but with no real luck. I was to put a correct period sight on it replace what I have. Here are some picks of what's on there now. I also include a pic of the front sight. I'm assuming the front sight is correct, but one of you guys will know better then me.

Numrich has repro carbine sights listed: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/958300

But, I don't know if that covers ALL carbines across ALL years.

Could it be that the elevator is supposed to push forward instead of rearward to elevate the sight? That way you'd have room for the elevator to work. Probably a long-shot, but who knows.

Could be that someone was missing the sight, put a rifle-length one on and found it zeroed well at 100. That's how my mom's Rem Mod. 33 is. totally missing the elevator because they never shot past that distance.

It's a 3/8" dovetail sight so should be very easy to source, original or aftermarket if you just want to outfit a shooter. Evil Pay has loads of 'em listed.
