Copy and Paste from Maryland Rising TEACHER FAILS ENTIRE CLASS: An economics professor at a local college made a statement that she had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on this plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
    1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
    2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
    3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
    4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
    5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I’m always surprised when this completely inaccurate characterization of socialism is parroted in different forms, although it is almost always framed as some dumb classroom lesson that never actually happened.

Huh, what? This is an easily repeatable experiment and works every time. My daughter has already experienced this in middle school.

Socialism fails by destroying incentives. Fails every time, and will keep failing. Capitalism is based on natural selection and evolution, which has 4 billion years of proven biology behind it.

    From the google search

    noun
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

policy or practice based on the political and economic theory of socialism.

    1. (in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of Communism.
It is funny when people try to justify socialism as not socialism. Bottom line, why should the hard working support the lazy.

You have proof to the contrary, let’s see... real world example would be a plus.

Also, this experiment is happening right now in China. Farmers dont own the land and have no incentive to maximize productivity (crop yield per acre). As a result, they are not adopting modern farming. Chinese farm productivity is way behind the west and they need to buy from America. Farmers who own the land and keep the rewards of their labor and technology adopt better techniques to maximize their revenue.

I’m not advocating for socialism, arguing it works or is desirable. What I am saying is that stupid class experiment is not at all an accurate portrayal of socialism and it’s frustrating to see people attack that portrayal of socialism rather than actually critique socialism on its merits. Thus, people who support socialism think ah what do those idiot conservatives know they don’t even understand how socialism works.

Dude that is so on target it is sick. You see I can relate real world to that. I grew up in Iowa. I talked with an Agriculture professor that went over in the 80s to help improve Russian farming. To understand why they had to much land under till, but needed imports. They were going to help....

Well it turns out the main factor was Russian farmers were NOT into deep tilling to soil working the land hard. NOPE, they set the till least depth raced up and down the field. Then... Hit the Vodka. you see? No rewards for spending 12 hours hours in the field. Mounting and extra alternator on the Tractor so you could work at night. That requires work..... So, Iowa could not help.

That is a true story kids. :sad20:

Explain why this is an inaccurate portrayal of socialism. Everyone is rewarded equally regardless of merit. That's socialism. As an example, if someone does better on a test or the SATs, the left invokes white privilege or some nonsense.

Inequality is *feature*of capitalism, not a bug. People are rewarded differently based on merit. People are born into different circumstances, but we have public school to even it out. Trouble is- public schools are administered by socialists, as in Baltimore, and largely suck.

Capitalism results in an unequal distribution of wealth...Socialism results in an equal distribution of misery. That doesn't take into account that the leaders in Socialism...the Elites...will always have the wealth taken from others and have their dachas by the rivers and drive in the ZiL limousines. It's all been done before and the results don't change...only the names and faces.
