Saw a video using a vacuum space saver bag instead of a press. Looked like a neat way to do it. I want to try my hand at it. Ever make one with an RTI hanger?
There are many different ways to do it. From barebones plywood and bar clamps to vacuum tables to t-shirt type heat presses.
I found YouTube a good resource. Search Phillyedc, taco presses, diy kydex, etc..
Basics would be:
Toaster oven
Laser temp gauge - optional but really helpful
Some form of press
Kydex sheets
Rivets and tools
Box cutter
Drill
Finishing tools- as expensive or as cheap as you want- sandpaper, dremel, belt sander, polishing wheel, etc....
Use caution with polymer guns.
I bought a Toaster oven at Good Will for $10 Built My Vacuum Table on a Harbor Freight Dolly With Casters Four 2x4"s To get to working Height, on the Lower Shelf(Base) I set a Out of Date Propane Cylinder for Capacity along with the Vacuum Pump. A simple pipework System with Vacuum Gauge and Ball Valve to Control Suction on the Box. A Hand Held HF Heat Temp Digital Thermometer and a HF Heat Gun to Adjust Holster Edges. HF Has a Cheap Gear Type Rivet Press that is Used with simple Mod's to set Grommets or Rivets.Knifekits can provide Kydex Dies and has Video's on it's site to help You ! I will try and post a pic of my Table.
