Sadly many people still don't use tree harnesses and MOST don't use life jackets when underway duck hunting on the bay. two duck hunters drown last year less than 100 yards from shore I think. Cold water kills quickly.

I shudder to think about hunting back in the day using an old trailhawk stand and hugging the tree while climbing up and down with no harness. I won't take a step off the ground now without safety harness, cell phone, and texting my wife or hunting partner when I'm up and then when on my way home.

"A 35 year old Washington County Deer Hunter (Early M/L Season) was descending from his lock on style tree stand when his foot slipped impaling his groin onto one of the screw on type steps."

    :shocking:

This one is full of fail

"An 18 year old Washington County Deer Hunter (Regular Firearms season)
suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his right arm. The semi-automatic
AR-15 type rifle he had been using was hung on a hook attached to the tree.

The victim was hunting at the time from a portable climbing type stand.
Upon reaching for the firearm either a branch or the hook went into the
trigger guard and engaged the trigger and subsequently a round was fired.
During the recoil process this action continued to happen until all of the
ammunition in the magazine was depleted. The victim was struck by one of
    the rounds"

Over 80 yo hunter dies after falling off treestand

If I recall correctly, there was an over 80 yo gentleman who fell from treestand and died.
When my time is up, that wouldn't be a bad way to go. That's much better than a prolonged hospital stay. At least I would be doing what I like up to the moment.
Of course, this would be my second best choice. Anyone cares to take a shot at my first choice?

I have fallen 20' from a stand, landed on my back. I have been 30' up a tree when the platform fell off my feet in the dark. I once was 25' up a tree getting ready to strap my loggy bayou in when all of a sudden, I was back on the ground floor! And there was the time I woke up in my treestand 30' up. I fell asleep, standing up in my stand. All day set, stood up to stretch my legs and dozed off. Yeah, I wear my harness. All the way up. All the way down.
