I have several Roosi SS Canoe Guns that I smoothed up the Guts with Valve Grinding Paste, using fine ground compound I used it sparingly and did about 350 operations before I was satisfied.Be sure to flush out the VGC and lube the action when complete.

Here's a pic of the steel receiver Henry 16-inch 357 with large lever loop next to a Winchester 92 in 357 (and a Ruger 77 in 357). Also including a couple of closer shots of the rifle and receiver, so you can see that the finish is more of a flat matte. The Rossi M92 (not in the pics) is more of a gloss bluing like the Winchester, and if not looking close up, is indistinguishable from the pictured Winchester. Should be able to get the Henry for around $700 out the door. The Rossi might be harder to find.Name: IMG_20161217_155655.jpg

Shouldn't judge by anecdote. With a standard like that, every gun (or whatever else) is junk if there's ever one bad example.

True dat.

I do like the look and feel of the brass receiver Henryís, played with one at a store and the action felt pretty smooth. Same with the Winchester 94 (trapper) thatís at United. Havenít found any Rossiís to check in person, but Bootknifeís action-smoothing trick Iíd like to hear about.

More data points are definitely better, of course!

The stainless Rossi’s seem to be much better QC wise than the blued versions. The action is smoother from the factory on the stainless models.

I am also in the hunt for a lever gun in .357 or .44 mag. All the Winchester, Henry, Rossi and Taylor lever rifles seem to be running on the other side of $750 (starting at $800 and up) at local gunstores and GunBroker. Even local consignment rifles get snapped up fairly quickly.

So sounds like several of us are all in the same situation. Hopefully we all find what we are looking for. I’ll probably have save up specifically for mine. Maybe in the mean time something will show up on consignment near me.

Totally off topic, but Wink's in Princess Anne has a used SS Rossi lever in 480 Ruger for $525. Not mine, just passing it along.
