    Do SBRs fall under the same vehicle transportation laws as handguns in the state of Maryland?

    It seems the state considers SBRs both a handgun and a rifle... :confused:

    Trying to get some clarity around the legalities of carrying a SBR in the vehicle more often than to range/shop only. Any help/references appreciated!

    When transporting an SBR across state lines (which is what I presume you're asking about...as opposed to driving across town), the primary difference is that you must have ATF permission, which requires the completion of an ATF Form 5320.20.

    Forgive my ignorance on SBRs, but if I had one and wanted to take it to another state for a day, would I have to fill out this form? Every time I wanted to move it out of state? And how much lead time would I need to allow between sending the form and getting approval? Holy crap... that seems ridiculous.

    Yes. Except you can submit the form covering a period of 1 year.

    Right now, about 6 weeks. See answer #2.
