Delawareans are again facing steep price increases for health insurance next year under the Affordable Care Act.

Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart has approved an average rate increase of 32.5 percent in the individual market for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware, which has the vast majority of the individual market share in Delaware. That follows an average premium increase of 22.4 percent for individual Highmark plans this year.

Aetna Life Insurance Co. received approval for an average 22.8 percent increase in the individual market, while Aetna Health Insurance Co. received an average increase of 23.6 percent. That follows increases of just under 17 percent for this year.

Weldin Stewart initially reduced Highmark's requested rates, but federal officials urged Delaware and neighboring states to accept Highmark's rates as filed.

So if your BC/BS (they have over 2015 premium was $1,000 per month, in 2016 it was $1224, and in 2017 it will be $1622.

Read some of the comments submitted to the Insurance Commissioner: http://www.delawareinsurance.gov/docs/rates/2016/Public-Comments-2016-Re-2017-Marketplace-Rates.pdf

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware insures ~95% of the individual market.

The only ones that the ACA benefits are the ones who don't work and won't work so, they are not paying for it!

This has been my observation. I have not met a single working person who is happy with this. The HUGE number of new people on the Medicaid roster are tickled pink. No premium to pay, free office visits, tests, prescriptions. What's not to like?

The White House tried hard to get the rate increases posted after the election. Can't win 'em all.

The only problem is there may be more voters on the take than working for a living. Hopefully Trump will run with this, ad remind people that the ACA didn't receive a single Republican vote.

That works out to $20K/yr, not counting deductibles and uncovered services/meds. Sane people will not continue to pay it. Mass noncompliance is all but certain as people get boxed into a corner of choosing between health insurance premiums versus other living costs. If the IRS makes it worse with large fines, the same people will eventually go AWOL and stop filing tax returns.

Which way did Delaware vote in the last election? Democrat. Thus they deserve whatever hell comes out of their moronic choice.

Regardless, we aren't as Liberal as Maryland. The founders of our state Constitution added the right to bear arms when it was drafted. We have legal Open Carry and there is an increased move to do so if you aren't willing to go through the conceal carry process. We don't need to prove a Good and Substantial reason to protect ourselves. The only reason we aren't considered "shall issue" is that we have a few hoops to jump though for CCW. Otherwise it is unless you are a prohibited person. Most of us don't "deserve it".
