Greatly appreciate the education. One of the reasons I have a C&R is because I enjoy the military/political history associated with various firearms.

OK ... then here's a little bit more info. This is why I'm not as negative about import marks as some people. They help to find out neat information about specific firearms that were brought into the U.S.

KSI was K-Sports Imports, Inc. While technically separate companies, some of the key figures in KSI were also involved with J's Pacific Enterprise Inc. A fellow named Jay Lin seems to have been the head of both companies, and they were located on the same premises.

In 1994, a U.S. Customs officer executed a search warrant for K-Sports, and apparently a whole lot of merchandise was confiscated. Subsequently, K-Sports went to court to get its property back, and the judge found errors in the warrant, primarily because they were not specific and because all of the merchandise and all of the computer records (including some of the stuff that was technically J's Pacific Enterprises property and records) were impounded. He ordered most of the property returned, but found that 1,000 firearms, purported to be full-auto weapons, were to be retained by U.S. Customs.

KSI, Jay's (J's) Pacific Enterprise (JSE), and Snow Bee USA, Inc., all seem to have closed shop not long thereafter. Companies in which Jay Lin may have been involved (along with other key figures in KSI) were:
    Js Pacific Enterprise Inc
    Brolin Precision Industry, Inc
    K-Sports Imports, Inc
    Brolin Imports, Inc
    Waffen Systems, Inc
    Jw Group Limited
    Snow Bee Usa, Inc

The history behind it awesome.its very possible that your sino was built with Soviet parts.the Chinese used the Soviet serial numbers system for only a certain amount of time.thats what makes the sino Soviet easier to date and spot.very well made

You've got a Chinese letter rifle. Attributed to 1959-60 production (possibly part of 1961).

Often referred to as a Sino-Soviet, but this is misleading. By 1959 the Sino - Soviet split was in motion, most of the Soviet technical advisers had already been sent home, or were on their way out of China. The Chinese were largely if not entirely in control of Type56 sks production.

The import stamp on your carbine will identify it as a recent import from Albania or one of the pre-ban imports.

Norinco did not incorporate until 1980, and largely only exported or assembled guns from large caches of leftover NOS parts. Thought they likely manufactured new parts for many of the commercial mods (AK magwells, short barrels, sporter stocks, short gas systems, scopes and mounts etc.).

From the looks of it, your carbine came from the recent caches from Albania.

    Nice score.

One of the characteristics of the Albanian SKS is that many of them had carved initials of the owner/soldier

Careful. Sounds like you bought the SKS after 2013. If so, putting a 20rd Tapco removeable mag on it makes it a banned 'assault rifle' in MD. Don't commit a disqualifying crime...

Slow your roll. If you are in Maryland you CANNOT install that Tapco magazine in that SKS unless you owned the SKS prior to 10/1/2013. Removable and extended magazine SKS were banned by the Firearm safety Act of 2013. Only SKS with the original 10 round fixed magazine are legal still.

This. Besides, leave it original. Its earned not being taken apart and messed with. Those are cool rifles, and because of those magazines a lot of them are incomplete because the owners either sell or loose the original magazine. You want that one to stay matching.
