About a week ago when it was warm on a Thursday, I took a mental health day and spent 6 hours at the 200 yard range at AGC with my precision AR10 and DMR ish AR15 testing loads....

Had the range all to myself for 6 hours....absolute peace shooting for that long with no distractions...

A VEPR in 54R may not be C&R, but I figured some would enjoy this pic - a fellow mds'er shot this while I was shooting his rifle. If you look to the left of the fireball, you can see the pressure wave was also caught in that well timed photo.

Took one of my new K31's with the W+F Diopter sight, an M1 Garand I just bought and my M1888 Commission Gewehr to Thurmont today.

The Commission rifle shot outstanding with some handloads I made using .321 bullets meant for the .32 Winchester Special cartridge. I also used 39 grains of IMR 4320 which should be a fairly safe load for the action. I averaged about 1 MOA at 100 yards. I had one or two groups that were touching though. I think that'll be my standard load for this rifle. I'll probably try to take a few deer with it this upcoming hunting season.

Finally had a chance to take the Russian SKS I acquired last month out to the range.
Shooting Steel @ 100yds w/ PPU. The ejections were almost straight up and forward so it was hitting the roof and went everywhere. Only was able to collect 50% of my brass.

Mosin PU sniper that I picked up from AIM a number of years ago when you could get them for about $500 or so. I was given some PPU ammo and they don't shoot much better than surplus. Using this up so I can use the cases for my reloads which shoot much better through this. My reload formula was tuned to this rifle and I use the same rounds often in my Finn which also shoots great with the .311 bullet that I use
100 yards from the bench. I did not have my rear sand bag today.

I didn't want to make a thread on this, so I will share it here.

My dad has his father's M1 Carbine that he carried in Europe during WWII. My grandpa was basically a armorer/gunsmith for .50 cal and under firearms during the war. He brought his very beat up M1 Carbine home (among lots of other goodies)

My dad recently joined a range that has combat rifle shoots. He decided to join one of the competitions and that he would use this fixed sight WWII M1 Carbine against all the guys with fancy AR15's with red dot scopes. This was a "move and shoot" type of deal with close range targets.

My dad has macular degeneration and can't see very well, I was expecting him to do pretty poorly.

Not only did he win, he totally smoked everyone. 20 was the max score at each station and his lowest score was an 18. Most of the other guys didn't even get a single 18, he was the only one with more than one perfect score.

Forgot to take a picture but I was shooting my Finn Mosin with PPU ammo and Tulamo. This is modern ammo that is non corrosive. you know what? both were crap compared to my reloads and even compared to old corrosive milsurp ammo.

I've never been impressed with PPU 54R, even the "Match" loading.

The best ammo I've ever bought in 54R was the Russian Surplus corrosive Match ammo in the blue boxes.

    This stuff: http://www.ammosupplywarehouse.com/product/288/Russian-762-x-54R-mm-MATCH-FMJ-182-grn-240-rdcan.html

It's the only stuff that can come close to my reloads. Not even sure you can buy it anymore, Grafs used to sell it.

Took the Soviet SKS,Mosin and Trap Door to shoot steel. I shot the Mosin at 50 first to check the sights and burn off some Tulamo
It was dead on where I set the sights over 3 years ago. This has a mint bore, pretty much zero muzzle wear and a tight action to the stock. It was one of my Classic Black Friday $89 Mosins that I kept .

Melnic, you're inspiring me. I haven't shot my Trapdoor in 10 years. I hear it crying...
