Another thing people sometimes overlook is the possibility of a "mini-stroke". I have had several that affected my vision temporarily. As you describe, like a gray colored shade appears in one eye and has affected different parts of my field of vision. Sometimes it is horizontal, sometimes vertical. Have had them occur in both eyes, but never at the same time. They last 30 minutes or less, but scare ya pretty good. Retinas always look great after having one and have been ruled out as an issue.
