I respectfully have to disagree but I'm not a lawyer...my wife is but I didn't run this by her. It's what I was taught in the police academy but as always is the case with the law...it's arguable and interpretation differ. In the academy the standard answer about the law is "It depends...on whatever yesterday's court decision was."
    Run it by your wife.

Yes, I can afford them. I tend to like “high-end” rifles and 1911s. I just don’t want to lose the money if they are banned.
And...if they get banned "you will be out of a lot of high end money"
I'm happy that you can afford them. we are talking AR's here now...
but if you buy one ,some of us can make many..(not trying to be smart)
just some thought. If you want high end guns that's fine, but in some
cases not all, it's the "cheap SOB" that out shoots ya. with an off shelf rifle..
Look at Tubb's shot a match & won it with his practice ammo... it happens

Stop buying "high end" rifles and build them yourself. They aren't very hard to build. You can also do a bunch of 80% lowers while you are at it, too.

^^ This... how many lowers can you buy for one high end gun? They make
all the tools and jigs to do this, even in this day and time YOUTUBE is
there. If you can comprehend and follow simple instructions shouldn't
be a problem or watch video's, take your time... We are talking AR's here.

Can always ask a neighbor for some help. Neighbors can be a wonderful thing. Especially the ones on MDS. :D

^^ definitely this, there are some great people on here, lots of knowledge,
experience, some may come across wrong, but honestly they will help..

    Lastly define "high end"

    just an opinion..

    back to original post...
How many? your wallet and bank account determnes how many
...oh and the other half... or whom "controls the money"
old saying "Don't put all your eggs in one basket"
"diversify" grasshopper...you don't put all your money in one
stock,, if it goes belly up you a "toast"

This is exactly what I'm talking about, just like you if I can
help I will some way. Got some of the tools, still gathering,
specialized tools now, some I can't even find now boxed up
some where... "ammo cans" like my Gem-State Armory tools..
oh well I guess when I get the basement done (again) or when
I am able to do it. Anyway keep it up, this is what it's all about.

While you can never predict what a court can do, the strongest argument is not only the Second Amendment but the Constitution's prohibition of ex-post facto laws and Bills of Attainder. The government cannot make illegal what was legal when you first purchased it...that would violate the prohibition on ex-post facto laws...but that has happened in the past and anti-freedom courts have upheld that. NYC did exactly that some years back. It demonstrates how important it is to have truly Constitutionally grounded judges on the local, state and federal benches and not political hacks. It's a constant fight that unfortunately will likely never go away. It's behind the state ban on previously owned"assault rifles" and 10+ magazines...the state couldn't ban previously owned examples due to such a Constitutional prohibition...no matter how much many would support that. That pesky Constitution simply keeps getting in their way.

As far as "too many"...it's none of the government's business how many you own as long as you are a law-abiding citizen.

They have no respect for the 2nd amendment, what makes you think they will grandfather or pay you for anything? There will only be one legitimate course of action when they pass a new and complete ban..fight back.

You can hide them all you like, unless you bought it FTF or built it from 80% they know what you have and no bullcrap about "lost in a boating accident " or some similar crap is going to work. You have 2 options..you turn them in, lose thousands of dollars and your freedom, or you gather like minded friends and take the flight to them..

My friend decided to buy one and make one. The former for turning in if it comes to that, the other not to

That is exactly an ex-post facto law.

That would be an example of a Bill of Attainder.

A bill of attainder (also known as an act of attainder or writ of attainder or bill of pains and penalties) is an act of a legislature declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them, often without a trial. As with attainder resulting from the normal judicial process, the effect of such a bill is to nullify the targeted person's civil rights, most notably the right to own property (and thus pass it on to heirs), and, in at least the original usage, the right to life itself.
Not for possession before the ban date. That’s illegal. Making possession after the ban date is legal. Think the 1934 Act and SMGs. There may be a taking issue.

Fatboy isn't giving restitution for the bump stocks, so I doubt they'll give anything for your arm's. If I were a police officer I'd call my family and tell them I love them if I had to go to collect the guns. Sooner or later there's going to be a terrible shootout because of these laws.

    Q. How many is too many?

    A. When your wife finds out how many you really have.

That happened to me 2 weeks ago. Huge fight. She knew about 3 of the 6 guns I had bought the last year (I didn’t tell her about the other 5 I had also gotten as those were all handguns and I was supposed to own 1 she knew of, and I stupidly showed her a 2nd one...hence the fight).

Downsizing a few. Or else is the message. See C&R post on getting out of collecting (not mine) for more of the story/rant. Will be awhile before I get more guns. As far as my wife is concerned I own one AR-15 and a few uppers to swap on. She has not, yet at least, insisted I get rid of the AR and I don’t think she will (she has known about it for a couple of years since I built it).

What the MD grabbers fail to realize is their dream actually turns out to be the Connecticut Confiscation, but they won’t accept that fact until it happens.

I don’t mean too many in the eyes of the Government, but rather too many for it to be a huge financial risk. I mean, is it redundant to have more than 2-3? I know it varies by person, but trying to get some perspectives.

Learn to shoot with both your feet so that owning 4 AR's is just about right. :lol2:
