From the email:
From what I have heard, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors is going to play games with the hearing on local gun-control this Wednesday:
1) They are going to limit the number of people who can comment to ten. They know that gun owners are not going to be happy and there are going to be a lot of people in opposition, so they want to silence us as much as possible
2) They are only going to have a virtual meeting, even though other localities are going to back having regular open meetings. This keeps gun owners from packing the meeting room
ACTION ITEMS
To get our voices heard, a rally is being held to protest the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors infringing on the right to keep and bear arms by Virginians. I expect the press will be there and we need a strong turnout to send a unified message to the Board of Supervisors!
Gun owners MUST stand together and help protect each other’s rights. An attack on gun owners in any locality is an attack on ALL gun owners and needs to be treated as such! Whether you live in Albemarle County, Charlottesville, any of the surrounding localities, or wherever, we need to stand together in unity against this betrayal of our rights!
Date: Wednesday, July 21
Time: 5 pm (the virtual Board of Supervisors meeting starts at 6 pm)
Location:
County Office Building
401 McIntire Road
Charlottesville, VA 22902
Carry is legal at the rally.
I will be at the rally before I head to Orange County to speak at a Republican Committee meeting (7 pm at the Silk Mill and Grill, 101 Woodmark St., Orange, VA 22906). See you there (or, perhaps at both places)!
----
If you wish to participate in the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Zoom hearing at 6 pm, here is a link to the guidelines.
Talking points:
* This is a solution in search of a problem. Albemarle County has not had any incidents that justify this infringement on the rights of the citizens of the County
* Alexandria’s shooting went up 40% beginning the month their ordinance took effect and has stayed up. This ordinance will only embolden those bent on harming others
* Only 12 localities out of 194 (six percent) have passed this kind of local gun-control, putting the County out of step with 94% of the state and the surrounding counties
* Parks have remote areas that police simply cannot cover or secure
* The Virginia Citizens Defense League currently has a lawsuit against Winchester over their ordinance. The NRA has a lawsuit against Fairfax County, similarly
* Gun-free zones are dangerous, as Virginia Beach found out when they had a massacre in one of their government buildings a couple of years ago
* Vote “no” on this ordinance
