10mm heavy loads.

Prepandemic I purchased 500 200 grain hardcast bullets from Montana bullet works.Now that I've finally got a chance to get around to using them my powder choices have become scarce I would like to be able to put them down range at about 1200 FPS out of a lone wolf 6-in barrel installed in my glock G20. right now the only powders that I have that I believe may work are unique, hi skor 700x and a very small amount of blue Dot other reloading forums I have read have recommended 10.5 grains of blue Dot out of a 5-in barrel for that kind of performance. The problem is I don't have near enough blue Dot and I can't find it anywhere.I do have other pistol powders but I don't think any of them are capable of that kind of performance. So has anyone reloaded 10 mm heavies that can meet or exceed 1200 ft per second?


I'm also going to be shooting these out of my 10 mm monkey gun AKA Hi-Point carbine.

You could try Universal, but I’m not sure about getting over 1200 FPS with it. Here’s from Hodgdon’s website.

Yeah, that's one of the forums that I read that recommended 10.5 grains of blue Dot. The problem is again I have a very limited amount of blue Dot and have not been able to find any. I have one full pound of unique which some people have also recommended. I was hoping someone here had done this and had some idea of what other powders might get me there. Unfortunately I waited way too long to start processing these 10 mm. I've been busy doing several thousand five five sixes

Both my G20 and 29 like 180’s better than any other and I’ve been running 10 grains of Bluedot with those with excellent results. I have used Unique also but I don’t have my data here at the moment
Hope you find a good powder that works for your 200 grainers.

Funny, I’m working on 10mm now with 180 gold dots. Good luck getting 1200 with 200 gr with those powders. Sierra emailed me blue dot data and 10.5 gr was max for the 180 gr. Ran the load in quickload and it only made 19,000 psi so I passed on it. Good powders for speed and accuracy are n-105, accurate #7, accurate #9, 3N37.

we have blue dot in stock if you're willing to make the drive down to get it.

800X. Might be able to find that.
or Longshot.

Unique got me to 1100 something fps with 180s.

if you'd like to try out some longshot I can hook you up with enough to test.

IMR 800X really is the champ for heavy 10mm loads. It is also one of the worst metering powders. Cornflakes...

Yeah I haven't been able to find that one in stock anywhere either. There's a few places down in Central Virginia that I've had decent luck with buying powder and it looks like I'll be heading down that way for work on Wednesday. Right now I'm on my way to pick up a couple of jugs of Blue. From one of our industry partners

I think I've got a partial bottle of 800x somewhere. It would be less than a pound. You're welcome to it if you want it for free.

A huge shout out to Mary at Medusa munitions in hollywood. Not only did she have the blue dot powder that I've been looking for she also had CFE pistol, long shot and lil gun.. I got enough blue Dot to last the rest of my forever and a pound each of the other three should help round out my powder selections on my reloading bench. Prices were very reasonable almost pre-pandemic. Definitely worth the 3-hour round trip. Thanks again Mary

Longshot is a good one for 200gr pills in 10mm.
I use Power Pistol because I have so much.
I've got a great spreadsheet for you in I can figure out how to attach it.

Couldn't get spreadsheet to attach but here's the info I have on factory loaded 200gr and 230gr 10mm loads.
You should be able to replicate these and get close to what you're looking for.

I did the same with my friends. They all have her name and contact for the shop. It's a long drive BUT I enjoyed the drive since I don't get down that way very often any more.

What's up with the "Drag racing enforcement underway" Signs on 301? I saw several destroyed guard rails....is street drag racing a problem down there? (I use to do it a LOT in California in my Navy days)
