Headspace...

So, I bought an upper (with barrel attached) and a lower and BCG from the same manufacturer, but at separate times, about a week apart. Can I just attach them in the usual way, or do I have to check for headspace and, if so, is there an idiot proof video someone might suggest that will walk me through the procedure, a baby step at a time? I do mean idiot proof.
