It looks like DD's stance is that [even if a rifle is listed as not banned on the MDSP website] if said approved rifle has had any changes to its configuration whatsoever it could potentially be non compliant and therefore not shipping it.

I ended up going with a 16" Geiselle SuperDuty from gunbroker.

I thought the geissele ate government profile barrels, not heavy barrels ?

True, he did only order an upper, but MD Fing law has most of the manufactures scared cause they dont understand it....hell, I have a hard time keeping it straight....

I always scratch my head when folks say this

Since when are out of state companies subject to MD law?

i know this is an old thread but for anyone interested I just happened to have a conversation with someone at DD about this. Of course id cited MDs website as saying the HBAR version was not banned and what I was told was that DD DID make an HBAR v7 and v11 a few years ago but they moved so slowly (I think "they just sat there" were his words) that they stopped making them. When they switched to S2W profile MD actually told DD that their S2W version of HBAR does NOT meet MDs standards for HBAR so MD disapproved it. So only the old HBAR version if you can find one is legal. the S2W hbar is not.

At this point, if a known manufacturer like DD can't do the proper research and help potential buyers located in places like MD, then its a brand not worth supporting imo. Money is better put into the pockets of manufacturers like LWRC (given that they are based out of MD:))

A Manufacturer/FFL can lose their License if they violate any state law.

The lawyers for Manufacturers/FFL's often take the safe route and make decisions to mitigate possible legal issues and the costs associated with those legal fights when they create policies like this one. I'm not saying it's right, or that I agree with it. Im just explaining it.

I am a FFL, and many distributors, manufacturers, and FFL's in other states won't send me items that my license can legally acquire (but can't sell to MD Residents) because of the fear involved with legal action from Maryland and ATF.

Full disclosure: I'm slated to go teach at DD so perhaps I can talk to them about this issue to get these policies reviewed.

I have seen S2W versions of the V11 pro's in MD FFL's, so something isn't right here.

DD's SOCOM Block ii upper that they sell exclusively through Brownell's is described as a heavy barrel. They only offered it for a very limited time as a complete rifle.

Gymratz used to sell the pro models which had heavy barrels. I even played with one in the store. ( I bought a Barrett rec-7 over it )
