The new system allows you to roughly determine how many MGs have been purchased in MD for that year. My application # was in the low 50s at the end of April, and I think it is fair to assume one MG at a time.

If someone did their annual registration near the end of May 2015, it would give a good estimate on the number of MG owners in the state of MD. I was in the low 500s and I completed mine 5/7/2015, so not really a good estimate but at least 500 probably way more.

I recall reading some figures a few years ago that there were roughly 24K MGs registered in MD. And that put MD on the higher end for MG ownership in the country. How many is the average per registered person in the state, no idea.

MG sales are now and have been quite steady for the last year or so.

As of Feb 2015 in Maryland:
    987 AOWs
    49,531 DDs
    25,548 Machine guns
    10,822 suppressors
    3,489 SBR
    4,242 SBS

Since they list 543k MGs total and there are only ~176k transferables more than half nationally must be pre/post samples in FFL or police dept hands (There are ~4500 MGs in DC for example.) I suspect thats where the majority of the DDs come from too.

I think half of those suppressors are owned by member of mds. :lol2:

Seriously though, that number is quite lower than I expected.

    DDs are mostly flashbangs.

Wow, I would've expected the number of SBRs here to be much higher. I guess I'm a member of a club that's more exclusive than I thought.:)

Makes you wonder how many are in police hands, too. My understanding is that a lot of police departments liked the Colt LE6933 (11.5") before the DoD started handing out M16A2s and M4s like candy. My own LE6933 clone is made from a demilled PD 6933, in fact.

Yes, good point! I 'spect the number of SBRs in Maryland LE hands is an order of magnitude larger than the Maryland civilian number.
Parenthetically, the upper I used for the XM177 contraption I built was a(n M4 stamped) 933.

But as IMBLITZVT has said (in 135 different threads :)), if they just sold off some of them, they could move up to a full auto.

Yea, but at least he is right. I had a guy next to me at the range with over 8K in semi autos next to me say he "couldn't afford it". ;)

He was probably referring to the ammo.

I'm probably going FA soon. Looking at finances. I think it's a good way to fund retirement.

I sold my MG because a) there are few places left to shoot full auto; b) I didn't have access to a farm; and c) it went through .308 faster than I could buy it. My pockets aren't that deep, and eventually it spent more time in the safe than out of it.
