My experience with skunks is that they can be domesticated pretty easy and they don't spray unless they feel threatened. I don't think many places allow them as pets thesed days because of their susceptibility to rabies.

Same with raccoons...opossums on the other hand don't get rabies and scare the shit out of people that don't know there's one in the house!

Thanks for the suggestions.
Sorry no pics of the little stinker...but I got him out. Vinyl lattice, and he was head first under the deck, maybe including front legs but I couldn't see much of him. No way to get a safe, effective shot on him by any type of weapon. My deck is close to the ground,, and that didnt allow access to his noggin. So,, I removed a section of lattice on the other side as an escape route, then carefully covered his "business end" with an old tarp. He was expressing his displeasure with my presence as I tried pushing his fat ass through the opening...no go. Grabbed a 10' 2x4 and broke the lattice with a couple jabs, but he's still stuck. Uncovered him and worked from the side, away from the directline of fire. He was putting up a stink as I rammed his butt through. Once freed under the deck, he waddled out of the opening like a boss, then made his way down the fence line of my neighbors yard into the back. Hoped he would keep going across the train tracks behind our property, but no. He's settled down in the overgrowth on CSX property. Neighbor said it sprayed their dog last night. He's gone for now, but I suspect we haven’t seen the last of him. Skunk spray is some nasty, potent shyt ![]()

Actually not that bad this morning. The tarp got hit and the area he was trapped are strong. Fortunately I avoided contact.

My brother shot a skunk broadside in the early 90s. It sprayed his trailer. Years afterward, no matter how many times the trailer was painted, the spray pattern bled thru the paint.
It was funny, watching him with a gas mask hauling the dead skunk away. The gas mask did not filter the strong smell ![]() If the wind was right, you could smell the skunk spray remnants months afterward from a quarter mile away.

My next door neighbors may not appreciate that I'm airing out the tarp along my fence, but even funnier have been neighbors on the other side of our hood - maybe 200 yards away - saying they have smelled it. Like the Robin Williams story following his colonoscopy, and farting with every step as he walked toward the elevator. All he could say was "yeah....it's me!". That's what I've told my neighbors ![]()
