    Yes, western Virginia is in fact further west than WV. Love it here will never go back even though my roots were in Md. People are NICE kinda like you might have imagined the old south 150 years ago. Scott County Natural Tunnel area is tremendous! TRUMP COUNTRY!

    I've done some work in Wise County with Appalachia Service Project (and will likely be there next spring as well). The folks in Central Appalachia certainly are nice. It's less a product of "The Old South" and more "Central Appalachia doesn't change quickly." Glad you've found a good place to be!

    No idea what the job situation is but they do have some industry in Duffield. Large Komatsu place, huge saw mill, jail, 2 vets, tempur pedic factory and some other places. You wouldn't think that if you look at this..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duffield,_Virginia

    My Father was from just a little bit further west than you. St Charles, in Lee County. That's a beutiful part of the country!
