Let’s say you owned one in md. If you were to put a serial number on it now, would that help you in the future if the bill passed in MGA

Unlikely. Might muddy the waters a bit like pre-'68 firearms that don't have serial numbers. But ...

    - Simply putting a serial number on won't be sufficient, because the objective is inclusion in a registration database. Legislation will likely require serialization through an approved/licensed vendor, and possession of a serialized-but-unregistered firearm will still be "possession of an unregistered firearm." Anti-2A legislators will ensure that the wording allows for that interpretation.

    - Legislators don't appear to be interested in us being compliant with the law. In fact, they seem to prefer that we not be (as evidenced by the constantly-moving goalposts.)

Hmph. Let's face it, people have been stocking up on 80% kits for years. You want to control them? Stop blathering on about "Ban this, ban that!"

You can pick up a complete Glock for less than a complete Poly80 kit. The only reason people spend the extra money is to beat the ban.

Sadly... there is an entire industry which is fed by recidivist crime. And it is the SAME industry which decides between guilt or innocence, penalty, length of stay vs. parole/probation. They rely upon LE to keep locking up the folks who keep bringing them $$$ for defense, prosecution, and adjudication. And the DOC to hold them and release them after their short vacation between crimes committed.

This fact needs more emphasis. There's money in revolving-door justice. And much less money when violent criminals are locked away.

That is how California applied their law along with a grandfather clause.

Any 80% lower finished after July 1, 2018 needs to have a unique serial number engraved on the weapon which is assigned to it by the California Department of Justice through an application process.
