When people ask me why I hate Maryland, my answer never fails to mention that it's just too damn crowded. This post reminds me why I stopped going to indoor ranges.

It reminds me why I left.

Freestate is a joke on 2 separate occasions I wslked in there and it smelled like a greatful dead concert. And then BOTH TIMES the guilty groups of people who were clearly stoned rented guns and went on their range. I will NEVER shoot there and their cystomer service is a joke and offers they make on guns to buy are a straight up insult.

I used to enjoy Free State back when it opened. Stinks to hear stories like this, but I rarely shoot at indoor ranges anymore due to the stupidity I’ve seen in a few indoor ranges over the years.

I witnessed and experienced same last couple times, especially disconcerting was the, Grateful Dead concert smell on the final Saturday afternoon I went. That was my last indoor range experience on or near the weekend, unfortunately for me, my schedule usually makes that the only times available, but don't want to get shot either. The last few times, I always requested a bay at the wall, at least one side was protected. Were I go, I will give the operators/owners props for their diligence, trying to keep an eye on the customers, doing what they can to ensure serious shooters are as safe as possible and making the date night shooters remain as respectful of the rules and safety as possible, there is always a marshal in the gallery. Checking firearms is done respectfully, no touching without first approval.

I will just change my go time, until I find an outdoor range, or buy my own land.

I'll be at Freestate on Sunday, only because I still have the rest of a birthday gift certificate left to use, and need a quick session to tweak a couple of things on my new 300 BLK build. After that, I'll be spending my range time at SLCFSA, now that we joined.

The last time I was at Freestate, a few weeks ago, the woman on my left was leaning out over the firing line, spraying me in the face with her 22lr casings. The guys on my right rented an AR. I asked if they were shooting 5.56, just make conversation, and they replied "I don't know, we're just shooting whatever they gave us." Left me with a nice safe feeling.
