I am taking my daughter to a college interview at Ursinus college in Collegeville a little North and West of Philly. Are there any must check it out gun stores in that vicinity? My route will be up the DelMarVa then 95 through WilPhil.

For those of you near the Maryland line, be sure to check out Hafer’s Gunsmithing west of Hagerstown. I was chatting with someone in the store and, although they’re in Maryland, they said they get quite a few PA customers.

Surplus City / Phoenix Distributors used to be great for police bybacks and milsurps in years gone by, when Ray was doing gun shows. Their store these days is a 1/4 of what it used to be. I used to make it a point to stop there every time I visited my brother in Bensalem but it just depresses me now.

Since Philly and it suburbs are going the way of Bloodymore, there are fewer gunshops than in the past. About the best place in just Northwest of the city is Tanners in Jamison. They also have some good deals on Gunbroker from time to time.

I always liked stopping in the Juniata Trading Post on Route 30 just west of Breezewood, Pa. My deer hunting trips always stopped on the way to check out all their Hunting/Fishing/Shooting and reloading products. Their selection of used rifles, and muzzleloaders is pretty good as well.

Juniata Trading Post is a good bit west of Phila , but is indeed a must stop in that region . Heck , not just the guns , but I go there on purpose for the hunting clothing .

Also not close to Phila, Harold's Gun Shoppe is "in " Chambersburg , outside the city limits just to the east . Lots of modern and C&R , also gunsmith . Formerly located in Fredrick, Md , deals with lots of Marylanders.

And generally in Pa , lots of little hole in the wall gun stores will have interesting used and older firearms at any given time . So pretty much anytime you see a random gun store in rural or rural-ish Pa , it's worth pulling in and taking a quick look .

And a subject came up in discussion at the Bel Aire gun show today , regarding a well equipped , specialized Black Powder gun store .

He didn't consider it " around here " enough , but none the less , after The Powder Smith lost his lease , the main " pure" Black Powder gun seller and gunsmith vaguely in the region is Fort Chambers , just north of Chambersburg .

We stop at juniata as many times as we can when driving thru breeze wood. It’s about 10 minutes west of downtown breezewood

Tanner's is hands down the best gun store I have been to. They are all knowledgeable and friendly. The best prices I have seen anywhere too.

If you go up that way, might as well check out the Bunker Gun shop too. Nice guys and decent prices. I think they are competitive but not quite as cheap as Tanners...close though.

Surplus City is small but they do get good police trade in deals. You have to check their FB page and act fast when police trade ins come in. People jump on their deals. They rarely answer questions on FB.

All three have FB pages so you can check them out.

There are other shops in the area but can't compete on price with these three. The others can compete on choice...Classic Pistol, Claytons, Guardian Training Center but are more expensive.
