Research CALEA accreditation for police departments. This has been in the works for years.

Is it basically like common core for police departments? You want federal sugar and goodies, then sing from our songbook?

He's not doing this IN RESPONSE to the Dallas shooting.

He's been driving things in this direction for his entire presidency; this is just the excuse, crisis, and opportunity.

    Same for more gun control.

We need cooler heads -- and smarter ones -- to prevail

They will. Just as sure as every school is lining up to indoctrinate the next generation of global socialists.

They the Feds have been infiltrating local law enforcement since the 1960's,it's nationalized in all but name.

Stalin could not have achieved his level of dictatorship resulting in the murder of millions of Russians without control of the armed forces and a national police force controlled by one dictator.

National police forces are created to bend and conform to the political will of their masters.

It changes the relationship from servant to master and removes checks and balances that local control allow.

The Feds are already guilty of gross, unConstitutional overreach.

Our United States were designed for the states to carry the load of governance not the Fed.

    It's a grossly broken system.

More Fed shit is a bad and expensive thing.p. And it would definitely be at the cost of freedom and liberty.

    This.

Yeah, CALEA is fun. Try being in command of a division that includes a drug lab and an evidence unit and dealing with that ******* organization for a reassessment or two.

CALEA began harmlessly enough thirty or so years ago and like many bad things, was actually a good thing when it started. It forced departments who wanted to be accredited to apply a decent level of accountability to their administrative policies. And more importantly, it forced jurisdictions that wanted their department to become accredited to spend the money on long overdue needed improvements.

Now however, CALEA has become overbearing, largely nonsensical, and used as a political instrument. They let the activists get involved in making policy and shoving it down the throat of departments wanting accreditation. And the whole set of standards has become unbelievably bloated over the years.

I had friends who were CALEA assessors. Basically mid/upper level commanders of accredited departments who go to other departments around the country to do their assessments. And they get paid by CALEA to do this. So they take vacation for the week they're gone and essentially get a nice bonus.

The problem is, many of these departments have been accredited for so long there are few if any improvements to "suggest." But if you don't find stuff, you might not get asked back for more assessments. So they find any chickenshit thing they can to say they were doing something. My favorite was when we had to pay to have the hinges switched from the outside to the inside of a locking door in the middle of a busy station main hallway. Because the assessor thought a burglar might come into the police station's main hallway, in a secured part of the building, and defeat the door by removing the hinges.

And while it's not required to be CALEA accredited, it is much easier to get federal grants if you are. Like everything else, the .gov controls the states and localities with grant money.
