Thank you for your correction, though.
My information came from Hatcher's "Book of the Garand" as he was at Springfield Armory during the development years of the M1 rifle and after and was intimately familiar with it's design and testing. He stated unequivocally the M1 was designed for the M1 cartridge and the M2 round was standardized due to ranges with insufficient safety zones for the longer range M1 cartridge.

This string has helped me learn a lot about the 5.56 and now other rounds, too. I'm learning a lot from the comments, and the OP and subsequent posters have encouraged me to read other sources. Thanks.

I like to remind snowflakes that the AR-15 is essentially a .22, which is virtually the smallest diameter bullet commercially available.....

No anti is coming here to be swayed into supporting the 2A, so I urge you to confront them where they gather for comfort, which means social media. Take the fight to the enemy.

Dont remind them... Next will be all other calibers as well. The less they know the more we can use that they know NOTHING to defend our rights. Once these morons learn anything it only leads to MORE restrictions and LAWS. Look at the ATF and the new AR pistol changes.
