And Janus is the only case left...

It looks like Janus will be another day. It should be a hum-dinger, if it's the last case of the session.

It is SHAMEFUL that this was such a close decision. Trump really needs to get another appointment to overcome the huge partisan hacks on the Court, of which Sotomayor is the worst. She is an embarrassment to Latinos.

The decision can frankly be summed as follows:
Majority - The law says the President can do what he did.
Sotomayor Dissent - The President is a big meanie face and what he did FEELS wrong so we should make new law.

Neither an agency fee nor any other payment to the union may be deducted from a nonmember’s wages, nor may any other attempt be made to collect sucha payment, unless the employee affirmatively consents to pay. By agreeing to pay, nonmembers are waiving their First Amendment rights, and such a waiver cannot bepresumed.

Time to start starving the Public sector unions!

    What is even better.

The SCOTUS mentioned in the opinion, that there can be no automatic mechanism to join the union and the opt-out. Union membership has to be opt-in, from the start.

This is a good, rational, long overdue result. Of course the lefties, with the union cash they have banked up, will throw a fit and explain how this is just what we'd expect from conservative lackies on the court, blah blah blah. It's a long-term victory, for sure. But given the history of union officials gladly tolerating violence from their "activists" over the years, I expect at least a few high-profile kerfuffles to erupt. While the ruling should just get everyone to settle down, and require the unions to make membership and the use of members' funds for politics more compelling by having to make a good case ... it will instead just cause them to be even more unhinged. Hopefully people will see through it.

It's a good day and I think overall a great term. Not happy with the ruling on state taxes, but that's where the legislature will need to step up.
