I've used monofilament my entire life. This past weekend, I saw what braided line can do.

I'd love to hear some pros and cons.

Hi viz yellow or dark green?

    Best knots?

Did you cut your finger? :innocent0

    Green Power Pro.
Tie a fluorocarbon leader on with a double uni knot.
Tie the hardware on with a palomar knot.

    Haa, luckily no!

My friend casted across the entire inlet without much effort. I was impressed! I laughed at him when he taped his finger beforehand.

A flouro shock leader? Or just 17 lb ish line?

I use a fluorocarbon leader for (in)visibility not for shock.

I have fished religiously for most of my 68 years. I switched to braid about 10 years ago and never looked back. Much better feel and farther casting especially with light tackle. I don't use any kind of leader and the fish in the bay don't spook so I have a mix of yellow and green. I have tested several brands and was happiest with Spiderwire. Now that I am retired, I have switched to Kastking since it is cheaper. :o

Add me to the list. I haven't used mono for years. I use both green and blue PowerPro and use fluorocarbon leader most of the time but not when surf fishing. I probably should. I prefer improved clinch knot just the same as with mono to tie terminal tackle except if I need the lure to be free of a knot then use a non-slip loop knot or Duncan Loop knot.

palomar knot is good for the lure/hook end. It does cut easily on jagged rocks though so if thats on the bottom it will snap like butter....thats why lots put a flourocarbon leader on, 4-5'

My Dad as he gets older has a hard time feeling bites and nibbles with mono. Tried some braid last weekend and he was killing the perch and spot. So for him it was a big difference in feel.

I run strictly braid. I like power pro 20lb hi viz yellow braid and I tie a 25lb fluoro leader on with a FG knot. I mostly jig and topwater.

I put braided Spider Wire on my spinning reel. Held some tension as I wound the line on the spool.

Went fishing last Saturday on the C&O. I hooked bottom. As I reeled in under tension, noticed the spooled, braided line, on the reel was rotating.

Should I pull out all the line and respool it with a lot more tension?

Yes, respool it putting 1-2 yards of mono as a backing. Or use one wrap of electrical tape as backing.

Newer spools are made so you can tie braid directly to them and it will hold without spinning. On older spools, you need to put something on the spool first so the braid can bite into it. That can be electrical tape, monofilament line, or even double faced carpet tape. If you want to save your line, peel it off into a small trash can and it will layer without getting knotted. Guess how I know all this. :o

Just to teach me how braided line acts like a chain saw, I was offshore fishing with my son last week. Had a faulty outrigger release clip that was not releasing. Fish took the outside line and zeeeeeeeeee it went without releasing. If you know outriggers, you know that the lines cross when sitting up there. The closer in line got cut off by the sawing action on the line. luckily all I lost was $15 in tackle.
