Greetings! I am new to the board and was hoping to ask some questions in reference to building a Maryland legal AR-15 chambered in .556. I have already purchased an Aero Precision M4E1 stripped lower from my local FFL and I would like to buy an upper build kit from Palmetto State Armory but want to make sure I am building it legally in MD. I am a little confused as to what constitutes a legal rifle build in Maryland and what constitutes a legal pistol build? There are a couple of build kits that I am interested in listed below but I am unsure if I can build any of them legally and what actually makes them legal and what doesn't? If someone could please point me in the right direction as to which of the items listed below is legal it would be greatly appreciated! Merry Christmas and thank you very much for your help!

Here are the kits I am looking at and any feedback to any of them being legal in Maryland would be appreciated:

Others will answer the pistol question or point you to the threads talking about it. For a rifle as long as you use a heavy barrel and nothing marked Bushmaster you'll be good to go.

All of the pistol kits you linked are fine to build, neither of the rifle ones are. For a rifle in .223/5.56 you must have a heavy barrel and you must have a fixed or collapsible stock if you want a flash suppressor. If you want a folding stock then you cannot have a flash suppressor.

Read through the numbered list on the linked page and you should have all of the information to build an AR and stay legal.

AR15's by their very design do not have a folding stock, unless you are looking at the one made by Para back in the day, from the Ziff (?) design.

At fixed or telescoping stock with a flash hider is ok. Even if the OP was going to use a Law Tactical folder adapter, a muzzle break/compensator would allow it to stay legal.

OP, short version is build it with a heavy barrel, and for God's sake do not listen to the people that state that the law says it must be marked or advertised as HBAR or heavy barrel. They are talking out their asses, because what they are referencing as the "law" is not actually part of FSA 2013, it was part of a MSP advisory, which carried zero force of law. See the below thread for further information, I created a very long post on that aspect on what can and can't be used, according to the advisory and the law.

Forgive me for thinking that the OP works for the General Assembly. Letting us do the research on what they'll try to ban this session doubtless provides much amusement in certain circles.
