So...the other night I was putting my pistol lower together and didn't realize the takedown-pin spring wasn't contained by the sling plate. A bit of it managed to sneak out when I wasn't looking and I pinched it down real good when I tightened the castle nut. :mad54:

It's pretty jacked up so La Pistola sits, partially assembled, for now.

Anyone in the Perry Hall area have an extra they'd part with? I know I can order one online but don't want to just order a spring..

I've done that a couple of times. I purchased a couple of kits with parts that get lost/bent/whatever. DPMS makes them, I suggest if you have more than one AR you get at least one.

Yeah...that's probably good advice. I'm sure it won't be the last time.

This is my first build and I was so excited that I got the pivot pin detent in without shooting it across the room that I figured it was smooth-sailing from there on out lol.

I tapped all of my receivers to capture the detent spring.

Has never happened to me and never will.

I just noticed that my 3 Spikes lowers all have this hole threaded! Is 4mm the standard for that or, if not, does anyone know what size screw to use with the Spikes lowers?

Not sure if taking one to Home Depot for test fitting is the smartest move..

It could be a 4-40 tapped hole too, not sure what Spikes does on theirs, but it can be done either metric or std

Just got an email from Spikes. If anyone is wondering, it is a 4-40.

    Good call Sticky!

Don't forget, you have to cut a couple of coils off of the detent spring to accommodate the length of the set screw.
Also, a clear soda straw or about 2" of aquarium air hose makes a great little tool to do the install.
Insert the detent and chopped spring. Then put the hose up against the threaded hole.
load the set screw onto your hex wrench and do the install inside of the tube.
If it goes sideways, it won't fall off the wrench or fly away anywhere.
Once it's threaded, you can lose the straw/hose and continue to screw it in until flush.
Make sure it's not proud or your end plate won't fit.

Satisfied with your install? Receiver extension on straight and all that?
Got the fancy end plate you wanted? Now stake that bitch and do it right.

I looked into doing mine, the hole is the pilot hole size for a 4-40 tap, so that's how I'd do it.. we probably have some short 4-40 setscrews at work too.. one of these days... lol

Great suggestion on the tubing/straw, I'll remember that! :party29:

That straw trick is a great idea. As is the cutting of the spring. Hadn't thought of that..

Will keep both in mind when I start my next build.

    Thanks guys!
