Newbie question.... I got a new scope and mount for my AR. The AR is a flat top with MagPul BUIS installed. The mount I got is a 1'' Burris PEPR QD and the scope is a Nikon M-223. There is not enough clearance with the flip-up cover installed on the scope; it hits the BUIS. Was thinking about getting a 1/4'' or 1/2'' riser to put under the Burris. Thoughts on this approach? Any downsides? Was thinking of getting some like this: http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Profile-Riser-Mount-slots/dp/B003LT3ISI/ref=pd_sim_sg_1.

    Thanks,

    Go for diff't covers instead.

If your comfortable with the cheek-weld as is, don't mess with it. Just get different covers.

Doesn't Burris make a riser just for this occasion?

Also have a MagPul PRS stock; at least the cheek weld is adjustable.

    Ahh.

I'd be leary about running a riser under a QD scope mount, doesn't seem to be the most solid mounting method in my mind.

I'm going to stick with my original thought, find a thinner set of covers. :)

Different caps or a different BUIS. In general scopes on ARs are already very high.

Try the ARMS BUIS. I personally am not a fan of the PEPR mount.

Can you change the angle of the way the covers open? Can you turn them where they open and close at a diagonal like from 8 0clock closed the bottom of the cover would be at 8 0clock and when open it would flip towards the 2 0clock position? It might clear the sight.
