That is downright infuriating (the way the Sgt was treated). That's the kind of treatment one expects from a South American or Middle Eastern jail.

Sickening and unfortunately very believable. MPD Chief Lanier is a criminal with a badge. unfortunately her above the law attitude trickles down to some members of her department.

MPD officers living in MD/VA should strongly consider getting a job in MD/VA to send a message to the chief. Comparative compliance will result in a relatively short training period. She is a disgusting example of drunk with power.

This is appalling, but quite frankly from others I have known who have been involved with various agencies in MD and DC, not surprising.

Shameful and outrageous, and I have little doubt it is all true. Otherwise DC wouldn't have dropped it. I hope he is successful in the civil suit, and am glad he moved the hell out of DC.

Thank you for your service Sergeant Corrigan.

move to a jurisdiction universally known for hard core gun laws, call a suicide hotline and tell them you have three or more unregistered weapons - including weapons unregisterable because they are illegal under any circumstances in DC.

Sorry but this is not exactly a clean case of "abuse" by DC. This is a combination of both DC and this gun owners screwing up. This guy did get cut some slack in the end, but for Miller to give half the facts is another case of many of her anecdotes being just as much about her exaggeration than the onerous and garbage DC gun laws.

Another story about police just doing whatever. This is the case where police are given toys and are jacked up to use them.....SMH....

Should post this link in the National section under "will the military take your guns" thread

You didn't read, or didn't comprehend the article. It clearly states,"Though it wasn’t listed as such, he had inadvertently called a suicide hotline".

You go on to claim "for Miller to give half the facts is another case of many of her anecdotes being just as much about her exaggeration than the onerous and garbage DC gun laws." However, you provide no evidence to support your assertion, the way I did to support mine about you. This indicates you are frivolous, feckless, ignorant, or, perhaps, some ungodly combination of the three.

Though it wasn’t listed as such, he had inadvertently called a suicide hotline. The woman who answered his call, who said her name was Beth, asked for his name, unit, address, phone number, whether he was active duty, and if he was using alcohol or drugs. Then she asked if he had any firearms.

Don't talk about firearms with any people at all: At school, at the hospital / pediatrician / psychiatrist etc. They are all agents of the government and are mandated to report you. That was really dumb. The standard answer is "No", always No.

Tell the truth and run as the proverb goes.
