While the excitement behind Woollard is understandable, a lot of good bills were defeated and some bad ones have made it through. Members should not lose sight of the fact there is more than Woollard to deal with during this session. Furthermore, nothing can be done with Woollard right now except let the courts do their job. Some of note:

HB 300 (http://mlis.state.md.us/2012rs/billfile/HB0300.htm) - giving retired LEOs preferential treatment when it comes to permit renewals and length of validity of said permit passed the House Judiciary 18-2 and the House as a whole 127-1. No Senate action yet.

HB 739 (http://mlis.state.md.us/2012rs/billfile/HB0739.htm) - permitting bow hunters to carry a handgun openly in REGION A was defeated in the House Judiciary 12-9. The Senate bill, SB588, survives and was passed 37-7 in the Senate. It has a hearing before the House Judiciary tomorrow, 3/27 at 1:00pm. Show your support.

SB 512 (http://mlis.state.md.us/2012rs/billfile/SB0512.htm) - Frosh's perennial anti-gun and anti-dealer bill, passed the Senate 26-20 and heads to the House. The House companion bill, HB 1310, was heard on 3/20. THIS BILL IS THE MOST DANGEROUS OF THE SESSION.

HB 209 (http://mlis.state.md.us/2012rs/billfile/HB0209.htm) - Codifying current MSP practice with regulated firearms and extending it to all rifles and shotguns, prohibits those convicted in another state of a crime that would constitute a crime of violence or drug crime in Maryland from possessing any modern firearm. Passed the House 134-1. The Senate version passed 29-17 and that bill, SB640, heads to the House for a hearing on 3/28. While on the face of it not particularly controversial, it does not spell out what "constitutes" means.
