That is a good story an why some of our heritage and some of our firearms are more than just tools to hunt with. My dad gave me my first hand gun when I was 12yrs old it was a S&W model 10, he gave me a Rem auto. 16ga. the follwing yr.he died while I was in the RVN in 1966!I got home just in time for that funeral But I would give up those gifts and my right eye if I could just tell him how much he meant to me and to thank him for those lessons on Honor,Duty and never givin up!So I would urge all you guys who still have the "old man" around ,to tell him if you feel that way...don't wait...you may not get the chance!

Thanks for the hearty welcomes. A Garand would have knocked my shoulder back into joint, and a Lee Enfield would still be here for my great-grandchildren to shoot, but this new baby is one of Dan's Mosin Nagants. A nice 1939 Izhevsk. I've been on an Eastern Bloc tear lately. Sturdy weapons for simple shooters, one of which I am. Now I've got my eye on a Finn 39, but my favorite rifle is my newest one, of course.

Even though I'm only 20 I've shot a decent amount of pistols, rifles and shotguns...let me say nothing kicks like a Mosin! We've got an M44 and the steel plate on the stock...words cannot describe, if you don't have that sucker tight against your shoulder, you'll wake up the next morning and barely be able to move your arm.

Now does your Mosin have a pistol grip in the stock, or is it the regular wood stock?
