... and with Sheriff Jenkins. Amusingly, as soon as Sheriff Jenkins had the flag, a dozen or so folks exclaimed "that's a great picture!" and descended upon us. It was a good way to end the day.

You could almost feel the disappointment in the fish wrapper article this morning. Peaceful demonstration by both sides.

I was there, it was awesome to see such a good turnout.

I was hoping to see the seating at capacity but still good given it was raining/drizzling during a lot of the time. I don’t know how one can keep from being angry and indignant hearing what these people have witnessed and experienced. There were only a few anti 287g protesters off to one side. Jenkins made mention of another demonstration further down the canal but I made no effort to have a look. Kia Hagan sounds like a Royal P.O.S.

Not surprisingly, the WaPo coverage slants heavily left ...

FREDERICK — On a wet Sunday afternoon, two distinctly different scenes played out on the brick-paved sidewalks of this historic county seat — both tinged, and in some moments, dominated, by the rhetoric of Washington politics.

Locals joined with visitors from the nation’s capital and its closer-in suburbs to stage dueling rallies for and against Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins (R), who was recently sued for allegedly racially profiling a Latina grandmother and criticized for canceling a public meeting on his department’s partnership with federal immigration agents — a program known as 287(g).
Yep, leading with an anti-Jenkins expectation.
About 200 opponents of the sheriff’s actions gathered with homemade pupusas, a mariachi band and a Democratic congressman who offered aphorisms from the Founding Fathers. A few blocks away, a similar number of Jenkins supporters hoisted American flags of every size and offered booming chants of “USA! USA! USA!”
Sorry, sweetie. There were more than 1000 people at the Baker Park rally. 5x the attendance ain't "similar."
In Baker’s Park, surrounded by yellow police tape and more than two dozen officers, protesters praised the agreement forged by Jenkins 11 years ago, which allows federal agencies to call on local law enforcement officials to enforce immigration-related orders. The program has led to the deportation of more than 1,500 Frederick residents, authorities say, the vast majority undocumented.
Protesters? Patriots and Concerned Citizens. The last sentence should read "1500 people in Frederick who shouldn't be in the country in the first place."
Speakers included Thomas Homan, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Dan Stein, president of the Washington-based Federation for American Immigration Reform, which supports President Trump’s immigration polices and has been designated as a hate group with links to white supremacists by the Southern Poverty Law Center. There were also women who said their family members had been killed in car accidents caused by undocumented immigrants.
The SPLC would designate my dead grandmother as a hate-group if they thought it would benefit their political agenda.

Oh, and some women said some undocumented immigrants did something involving cars.
Walking distance away, the RISE Coalition of Western Maryland, in conjunction with the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland, hosted a “unity rally,” with the aim of “celebrating [the] immigrant community.” The crowd listened first to local musicians, then to activists from Frederick and beyond.

“Hello Frederick — the real Frederick County,” said Rep. Jamie B. Raskin (D-Md.), whose district includes parts of the county but is anchored in more liberal Montgomery. “We are a people of immigrants. That’s who we are.”
Yes, yes. Jenkins' group had "protesters." RISE and the ACLU had a "unity rally."

Also, Rep. Jamie Raskin is a MoCo carpetbagger.

A little more info from the FNP updated story -
At one point as Jenkins spoke, a handful of residents, including Board of Education member Liz Barrett, stood in silent protest near the front of the bandshell.

After one attendee approached them with a sign of support for ICE and 287(g), the group chose to leave, and police escorted them away from the bandshell through the nearby playground. Shortly afterward, one of the counter-protesters ...
Dammit. We weren't protesting anything. The so-called "counter-protesters" were the protesters.
... then was subsequently tackled and arrested after being briefly chased by police.

Frederick Police Capt. Dwight Sommers said the man who was arrested struck an officer before being chased and tackled. That man will likely be charged with disorderly conduct and possibly second-degree assault, Sommers added.
Yay coexistence and tolerance. Also don't hit the police officers. They don't take that behavior kindly.

Many thanks to the OP JimB for this thread, for those who attended this event.

Extra appreciation to MM, not only for carrying Our Flag at the event, but also for your excellent pics and fact reporting.

Both Sheriff Charles Jenkins and former ICE Director James Homan are courageous, selfless and patriotic in the face of this growing leftist anti-Americanism that is spreading locally from Maryland and DC.

On September 26, 2019, the very next day after Jeff Hulbert and PATRIOT PICKET confronted the Dem Libtards at the House Judiciary Committee AWB hearing on Capitol Hill, both Director Homan and Sheriff Jenkins sat side-by-side in front of some of the same Dem Libtards at a House Sub-Committee on Immigration and Citizenship hearing.

    Watch this!

It gets even better - - watch the video in this Daily Caller article: “You Work For Me! I’m a Taxpayer!”

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.dailycaller.com/2019/10/07/thomas-homan-pramila-jayapal-ice

Both videos share some of the same footage, however the video below includes the remarks of Sheriff Thomas Hodgson of MA who expresses this at about the 2:40 minute mark:

These committees have really turned into a real circus, because the members of the committee have actually disrespected the people who have come there to testify, to give them information - - they cut them off, they treat them disrespectfully and there is a point where all of us have finally said:

“Look, we pay your salaries, you’re in a building we pay for, and you’re supposed to be doing our work.“

And they basically pursue their political ideologies and use the witnesses as their political pawns ... they’re not here to pursue the facts.”
