Is there a noticeable difference between a Colt upper parts kit (forward assist, dust cover, etc.) and some other brand? I'm thinking no, but I could be wrong.

For that matter - see same link above - Colt carry handles? Colt charging handles? Although the carry handles are more reasonably priced actually.

Lower parts kits can be a different story but really any upper parts kit should do just fine. The only real variance I have seen is some use a split pin and some use a roll pin for the forward assist. I have no opinion on what might be better, but I know the split pins I have used have been generally more difficult to drive into the upper.
