So my usual processor, KCC farms, has a new requirement that all deer must be skinned, with legs and head removed in order to be processed. If Im doing all that I might as well do the whole damned thing myself. I want to start doing them on my own, but sometimes time does not allow for it, and my wife isnt overly thrilled with the idea.

Anyone have any good recommendations for any other place close to Jarrettsville?

I hope kcc farms adjusts his prices accordingly since now his customers have done some of the work

Used him last year happy and prices aren't bad
It looks like its now $80 flat rate. Still high considering.

I second D&P meats. I work with the owner. Any size deer, same price. You will get your meat back and ALL of your meat back. He has a spotless shop. You will be happy.

I had Bowmans do my first deer and it tasted like they ground up the scent glands in the meat. I've processed every deer myself since.

I have had good luck with Holrick Farm butcher, 8468 Church Road in Felton, PA. They will process and smoke venison and make great venison bologna. They are about 30 minutes from Jarrettsville up Maryland 23 (which turns into Pennsylvania 24) north of Stewartstown. They are right next door to Hopewell Pheasantry, a regulated shooting preserve for pheasant and quail, which I also recommend.
