So here goes another n00b question. Is there any law in Maryland against transporting a finished 80% lower. I have a coworker who thinks it is against Maryland law to transport an unregistered/un serialized firearm. This includes to a gun range, repair shop etc.
To expand. Just a firearm. Though if you built it in to a pistol, handgun transport rules apply. But not until you’ve made it either a pistol or rifle (or built as a pistol and is now reconfigured as a rifle, then long gun rules apply).
Not that anyone is likely to know what touched the lower when if it was purchased as a virgin lower or was built from an 80%. But the ATF does have clear guidance about what it is when.
To add, if it is a finished 80% of a traditional handgun, like a Glock, treat it like a handgun once it’s been finished even if it is still technically “other” until it’s been assembled (you could assemble a Glock frame with a buttstock and 16” barrel if you were crazy).
If found with a finished 80% “pistol” frame transporting it in violation of the handgun rules (for example just sitting in your trunk when you are at work) probably going to be some affirmative defending on your part.
