So birthday present came in today.
This one came in from Veteran Arms
    This is no Pedersoli

    No engraving on the lock
    Minor dents in the wood
Overall it looks like I got what I paid for.
It was well packed I bubble wrap and tightly surrounded by shipping peanuts

Now, my balls are too small, I need bigger balls

    Damn you!
You made me go to that website and now I have drooled all over my keyboard. They certainly sell some beautiful guns!

This was from Veteran Arms. They state that "most are Teak" and stained a walnut color. These are mfg in India.

I was wondering if you could tell which. I looked at the website and was curious. Teak is fairly plain grained, but stains very nice and evenly.

While I have seen many things made of it, I have never seen a Teak gunstock.

I have a Korean Surplus M1 Garand which has a Teak replacement stock. For very plain wood it's much nicer than Beach because it doesn't get all splotchy when stained.
Sweden also used Teak as well as Walnut for some of their Mausers stocks. They seem to have sourced wood from all over during different periods.

I can take more pics if you guys can direct me on what you would be looking for me to find or not find.

Edit: just be warned that there are plenty of nay sayers on these India guns. Pretty much by those who don’t own one. I went into this with my eyes open and read reviews and opinions from both sides before buying. You need a really long range rod and a big jag that you will have to custom file down in a drill.

The only thing I would be concerned about (for longevity, not safety) would be the lock parts. If you are handy enough, I would suggest case hardening the tumbler, sear and fly if it has one. After sparking it a bit, you will find out if the frizzen needs hardening as well. It is a nice looking rifle though.

Hard to tell from pics, but I'd bet teak. It sure is nice for a "budget" rifle!

Well, getting closer. I now have "bigger balls"
This weekend the 62 cal balls came in. Using some pillow ticking square patches I cut, they fit nicely.
Dropped a sectional brass rod in, then pushed the ball and patch in.
Then used inertia to drive the ball and patch back out.

I"m not so worried about accuracy on this one so a patch that keeps working when fowled is fine.

Once I get this shooting, I'm going to make some paper pouched cartridges for it just to "get the feeling" of the time.
Maybe some buck and ball using the .311 balls from my Crockett as well :)
