There was one on sale for a good price (used) so I bought it. It was in very clean condition and looks like it hadn't been shot much. I made up some +P loads and took it to the range today. I need to adjust the sights but I like the way it shoots.

    Sounds sweet.

I had one in .357 about 20 years ago.
I have the goofy idea I want 44 to go with a couple lever actions I have.

So is this the ( relatively ) later model gun built on the "50th Anniversary " frame for Lipsey's , or a caliber conversion built upon the "regular" aka " large" New Model BHawk ?

You better be sure before you buy. There is a hell of a difference in recoil in the handgun vs the rifle. I know, I have both and have had to load down the handgun as my 67 YO hands don't much like it anymore.

That's funny because I just loaded up some max loads to try in a Ruger New Model Blackhawk in stainless steel (4 1/2 inch barrel) and also a Rossi Model 605 (2 inch barrel). Neither were too bad on the recoil. Muzzle flash was pretty intense though.

    Minimum loads were pretty tame.

As far as I know the Lipsey's were the only version Ruger has released.

Incidentally, I'm loading the pistol with 180 grain Hornady XTP bullets and 10.5 grains of Power Pistol. It's a load featured in a recent issue of Handloader magazine.

They also have 200 and 240 grain Hornady XTP HP bullet loads which I might try out.

Try 240gn XTP with 8 grains of Unique. Shoots great out of my .44 Mag and doesn't break your wrist.

This. I typically load 7.8 to 8.5 grains Unique with a 240 grain cast SWC for 44 Special. The flat top frame is the same size as the New Vaquero frame and capable of a little more oomph than that, though not in the magnum range as its larger Blackhawk brethren.
