Been looking for an affordable antique spear for the collection and I finally found one at an antique show. The guy had 3 of them on his table and only one wasn't damaged. It's almost 9' tall and after doing some research I found out it's African and was used in the Sudanese war from the 1880s-1890's. These hand forged "Baggara" spears were commonly made with bamboo shafts and used on horseback, camelback, and even oxback. It was fun walking out of the antique show with this thing, everyone staring at me. I told them I was prepared to protect them from any attacking lions. What an awesome old weapon.

Is that one picture a model of "Chinese" Gordon getting cut down at Khartoum? Regardless, very cool spear.

Very nice leaf-blade. How sharp was it when you received it?

It's pretty sharp for being 130+ years old. Almost cut myself with it when I grabbed the blade the wrong way. Definitely still functional and the bamboo is still in pretty good shape too. The very bottom was starting to split so I carefully stabilized it with Elmer's glue.
