I finally settled up with my brother. Traded him a nice Swiss K11 (former M1889/1900 short rifle).

From the Pohjois Kymenlaakso District. This thing is an awesome shooter, and it appears to have a history ...

Very nice indeed and just out of the Olympic trials serial numbers range. I would say the notches confirm your assertion that it is a good shooter. I think you got one up on your brother!

He has 6 from which to choose. This one has the history which I love, but it does have a minor issue - the toe splice was either done in the field or by a drunk stock maker, as it isn’t flush and there is the tiniest of a lip that can catch on something if I’m not careful. The only other two in which I’m interested are ones he’s keeping (both in correct dated stocks). He’s going to sell the rest. The way that Swiss rifles have climbed lately, I think it’s close to an even trade, although I probably came out a little on top. That’s okay - I previously gave him a Swiss IG1911.

I'm no expert, but there's one less thing on my C&R wishlist.
This appears to be all matching and in good overall condition.
A friend of mine tipped me off to it and the price was reasonable. It even came with a non-matching number bayonet. Add one more caliber to my ammo shopping list. :o

I employ a woman from Guatemala to clean my house twice a month. I highly recommend her.

Looks good Todbiker, those bayonets are worth about 70 on their own.

God help my bank account, I picked up a seemingly unfired P64 (dated 1966) and a pre-WWII commercial PPK in 32ACP over the last week.

The trigger pull on the P64 was atrocious. It took two hands to work the double action. I ordered a spring kit from Wolff (and a set of Polish Iron grips + extended mag release) and installed same. The 18# spring made a huge difference in the DA trigger pull. I'll have to take it to the range to evaluate whether the spring is heavy enough not to make SA too touchy.

The PPK came with cheesy aftermarket grips that don't fit. Replacements on order. To date, PPK in 32ACP is by far the most delightful pocket pistol I've shot, which is why I hunted down another.

    Nice score Bob

Bore has been abused like a Philippino maid in the UAE. Otherwise fine condition. Stock was cut down at some point and I need to do some repairs to the upper fore stock. I am
Hoping to get it to the range maybe this weekend, though I’ll I have a box of Yugo surplus 8 Mauser. I am hoping to bum a handful of rounds from a buddy also. I’ll buy a few boxes of PPU or whatever shortly, but no chance of getting any in the next week for me.

1913 Spandau made Gewehr 1898. Barrel matches the receiver, but looks like it was cut back and recrowned for K98k length and a K98k bolt.

I am hoping it shoots okay. $250 out the door and this C&R license is going to be expensive (especially if it ruins my marriage). Technically a Yugo M57 was my first C&R buy, but it hasn’t been delivered yet. they can be shipped to my door?!? Whatttttt?!? :-)

I mean, honestly just the less hassle of skipping a 4473 and saving that 10 or 15 minutes will probably make the $30 worthwhile. Let alone skipping transfer fees.

Oh and a pile of what came out of the bore. I doubt it is halfway there in terms of cleaning.

    A day early!

I still think they have a weird beauty, kind of like a 10 who’s eyes are a little too close together and you just can’t unsee it. Also this is my first experience with Kosmoline. Jebuz, the stuffs like the Ruskies figure out how to cross boogers with Vaseline. The thing is caked with it to the point that I can practically count to 2 before the slide closes all the way boomeranging it.

But it feels soooooooo nice in my hand. I am hoping I can get it and my just acquired G88 to the range early next week.

That's the M57 you've been waiting for, right?
It's a pain but take the firing pin out and clean that housing inside thoroughly to get all the goop out.
It's a goofy arrangement that looks like a 1911 at first with a stop plate that slides out,
but there's a little collar and springs and what not that are an annoying PITA to get back in place.
Take it apart in a plastic bag or box to contain the inevitable parts trying to escape.
The rest of it is like a TT-33 and pretty simple to tear it down.

    Why, thank you sir.

I'm quite thilled with the PPK. I got new old grips from a guy in Poland, but I had to grind a bit on the left panel to permit the trigger to function properly. I'd previously bought a set from Earl's for the other pistol, and it was properly manufactured to fit; I didn't want to shoot the pistol with the old 1-piece grips that already had a little crack. So I saved 30 bucks with a half-hour's work.

I'm eager to see how the Polish Iron grips work to cut down the snappiness in the P64. I may have to go to new recoil springs, too. I brought the pistol to Chantilly so another MDS-er could try them with his pocket holster; he seemed plesed with the result. Thing is, I had to buy a little Pony vise from ebay to change the hammer springs. Wasn't gonna happen freehand.

When I went to reassemble, dang if I could get the slide back on. Took me 15 minutes to realise that the trigger pivot pin had rotated 180 degrees, and was preventing the slide from mounting. It just floats in the frame, counting on the slide to keep it from working itself out.

So I'm getting a fair amount of Bubba gunsmithing done these days. I'm grateful for all the youtube guys who have gone on before, showing the way.

Yup! The conditions were claimed as good to very good and I went with a handpick. I’d call excellent condition. Very little wear anywhere.

I tore it down last night and cleaned it out. Only a field strip though. I’ll see about getting the firing pin out and channel and pin cleaned off.
