In reference to my initial original wear and carry application:

Had my interview with Sergeant Jones this week at the Licensing Division building in Pikesville.

Extremely professional and courteous. Great personality.

Entire interview took all of maybe 7-10 minutes.

I signed a document acknowledging truthfulness.

He asked a few questions regarding business, purpose of permit and frequency of bank deposits. Being a firearms dealer satisfied all of those questions.

Additionally, he asked questions related to marital status (Which he advised me take my time and referenced the black curtain to our right hiding an old rusted sink. He told me to look beyond the visual appeal of the curtain. [Sgt Jones has a great personality. Probably keeps civilian staff entertained.])

Other questions were related to drugs, alcohol, and confirmation that I was not a prohibited person.

I concluded interview by giving him my card and asked if he was interested in any particular firearms. He politely took my card and advised me that everything seems favorable. I should have confirmation in a couple of weeks.

Overall, not an intimidating experience whatsoever. Maybe I am weathered after having spent 4-5 hours with ATF and another 5-6 with Sergeant Edwards at MSP.

Definitely commend the Maryland State Police.

I mailed my application around May 6th. I had my interview several months ago in Charles county. Nothing back yet?

Call the licensing division. They are obliged to wrap the whole thing up in 90 days, and generally get it pretty close to that. So you're running about 4 weeks late right now. Very odd that your interview was so early in the process - that usually happens right near the end. How many months is "months ago?"

Years ago my interview was about two weeks after I submitted my application and then it was wait wait wait. Now it seems like they generally do interviews towards the end of the process.

Most people have similar experiences during their interviews, the trooper that interviewed me was an A-class guy as well. It isn't until you encounter the tyrants from the licensing division that you start to lose your respect for the MSP.

Is the general consensus that the process is getting less restrictive?

No, not really. Though the process for getting restrictions lifted by the HPRB has become better understood and more widely pursued. But that may be different after October 1 (because of how the MSP can then have a do-over in front of an administrative law judge if the HPRB changes what the MSP does). And of course if Hogan doesn't win re-election, you can assume that his socialist opponent will do everything he can to populate the HPRB with rabidly anti-gun activists - which will embolden the MSP to be that much more restrictive (on both while-carrying restrictions and on outright permit denials).

I believe it was July 23. That would be almost two months.

Sent in my W&C renewal paperwork 27 days ago, nothing in the mail yet. As far as I know no calls to anyone and my only interview was for the first application about 11 years ago.
