I've seen a few 6 and 8 point bucks and a couple of forks the last month. However, not a single one around where I'll be hunting. All Does. Though at least where I'll be hunting I haven't seen any fawns (I have elsewhere).
I saw a nice foursome a BIG does down in Potapsco in the power lines just out of crossbow range (I ranged them at 326 yards
). Looked like a couple of 2 1/2yr olds and a couple of 4 1/2 or 5 1/2yr olds.As much as I wanted to do a climbing tree stand purchase right, I went cheap. Big Game The Outlook from Cabela's last night with their sales (I am aware there was a recall on a batch of them 2 years ago.
Maybe stuff could change, but I am a "hunt from a stand only if there is no other way" kind of hunter. Going down in to Potapsco, the only way with a bow I am getting something is from a tree stand. At least until the foliage starts coming off the bushes and trees. A lot of good places from a stand though.
If it turns out I really start using one I'll go do some in person research on some of the nicer Summit and Wolf stands.
I think I'll have a few hours Saturday late afternoon and evening I can get out. Probably not till the following Thursday then.
