Thanks Guys I've just started an AR-10 build .308 Deer hunting is a long term goal but, the build is probably gonna be slow. I am going to get very familiar with my rifle before I ever try to use it on an animal.

Make sure you build it with an adjustable gas system for an AR-10. I didn’t listen. Wish I had. Swapped to adjustable gas block and fixed most of my issues.

My oldest son sika hunts with a WW 308 rifle sometimes down to the marsh.
He told me when I use it anymore, to make sure to give the forward assist a few bumps when you get in the stand and go to put it in battery. Especially when its cold.
I put a fixed stock on it a while back because of mud and sand- debris water and all that.

A rifle in 308 is my go to, but that said, a few select .223/5.56 loadings have proven wholly adequate for taking deer inside of the ranges we tend to hunt in. The Federal Fusion Soft Point in 62 grain comes to mind. It has been very hard to find lately though.

My favorite inexpensive hunting round is the 150gr Federal Powershok in .308. Can usually be had for around $15/box and shoots MOA all day out of my TC Compass. Relatively low BC, though, so if shooting past 300ish yards, I would prob opt for something fancier.

For an upper I would only use during whitetail shotgun season I think is a good option.

Tired of toting my H&R 12 gauge heavy barrel though the woods.
