There are more than one viable and function techniques. Push-pull is an element of several .( Including my prefered.)

This video is from 2010, but seems to be blowing up all over today. Gotta wonder where this "instructor" is now.

EDIT: Range appears to be this one

YouTube commenters are saying that employee hasn't worked there since 2012.

No the best job opening to lie on your experience...lol

Not sure what all the fuss is about. He said he "meant" to do that. Clearly it was a safety demonstration to make sure his students were wide, wide awake.

His grip instructions, the push pull thing, I've never heard that before.
Is that a proper technique ?

The guy seems like a professional liar.

Its a technique some like to use and teach but most of the big pros I know teach the pressing from both sides style.

push pull is effective to help some shooters overcome low left for righties and low right for lefties. Helps reduce complementary pulling of fingers below the trigger finger.

I wouldn't advise it outright nor primarily; I'd advise it as a correction after observing a student's grouping. Push with strong hand palm, pull with support hand fingers; reduce pulling with strong hand support fingers.

We are all different, some people need it, others don't.

This was sort of what I was taught and it seemed to work.

    What I mean is....

Right hand pulling, left hand pushing, to keep tension on the gun so I know where it is. My elbows are bent and I lean forward slightly over my center of mass.

This was how how I shot until I contacted an instructor here on MDS in order to get my NRA certification for my FL permit.

He told me not to "create" tension but just hold it just enough to have control. I was using way too much effort in the push/pull method I was using before. This was causing fatigue and less accuracy.

I now shoot much more relaxed but still have a firm grip.
