    They go out, far more often for the safety devices that when activated shut the machine down, rather than due to a mechanical failure.

    Oh I know all it takes is a leaf to trip the sensor at the top or bottom and bang off line. I still think they need a service guy to verify and clear the debris. But lately a lot of the stations have been replacing everything

    Much of the equipment was installed in the 70's, runs 18+ hours per day, some exposed to the weather. The transit environment is rough on equipment. We have recently completed replacing over 180 pieces of equipment with many more overhauled. Over 600 escalators and over 300 elevators, guaranteed work that does indeed pay well with great benefits.

    As far as pay and benefits: Beginning the program, pay is in the mid $20's per hour, pay is increased on a climbing basis. In other words as the hours build (8,000 total) pay is step increased as a percentage of journeyman's pay. At graduation pay is in the mid $40's per hour, not counting overtime. Also just as important is fantastic benefits. Hopefully we will have some takers off of this forum.
