AR Build Fundraiser for Combat Wounded U.S. Army Veteran "Charles" Douglas Harris

As fate would have it a disagreement with another MDS Member about AR Maintenance and Lubrication led me to a man I am proud to have come to know.

If you want to see how I came to know "Charles" Douglas Harris, here is the link: https://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=213430

Here is His Story:

"Charles" Douglas Harris enlisted with the U.S. Army in 2010 in California as a Infantryman, and attended Basic Trainng and AIT in Carlie 2-54 Fort Benning.

After Basic Training he was assigned to 3-2 SBCT 5th Battalion 20th Infantry at Fort Lewis Washington. Douglas deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan in 2012.

Charles was a Grenadier for majority of the deployment conducting mostly foot patrols to clear local towns. On May 30th 2012 he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device while on a dismounted patrol. The blast immediately resulted in the loss of his right leg below the knee.

He says: "I remember seeing my left leg all torn apart but I didn't officially lose the limb for a day or so later. I tried to apply tourniquets but at that point I realized my right arm had sustained a lot of damage as well, and basically my skin and muscle was all torn up, and my elbow and forearm were broken. I was unable to apply my own tourniquets."

Charles Team Leaders came and snatched him up and stopped/controlled the bleeding, loaded him up on a litter, and got him on the Medivac.

"I was in and out until we got off the Medivac and when they took me into a medical tent I went completely out until waking up at Walter Reed Medical Center, Bethesda MD."

Charles did all of his recovery at Walter Reed that's where he met everyone from Heroes Haven. He participated in a couple of their hunts and he realized that he could still do what he loved to do, which was shooting and get back into the outdoors.

Fast forward a couple years. Charles got out of the Army in December 2013 and became a Coordinator for Heroes Haven helping get other Disabled Veterans get back into the outdoors. Charles started his own Non Profit to help more Veterans with outdoor opportunities in West Virginia. Charles says: "Honestly I'm just very lucky to be here and I seriously don't think I would be with out the Heroes Haven program, amazing Doctors, Hospital Staff, and my Family."

Here is what I would like to do for "Charles" Douglas Harris:

I have offered "Charles" Douglas Harris a free spot in one of my AR Build Classes. If you can't tell from the story above Charles is an avid hunter and he has always wanted an AR in 6.8SPC as a Deer Rifle. Fellow Patriots, can you help me gather AR Parts for Charles? If we can gather enough donations we can get all of the parts so he can build his very own 6.8 under AR, under my supervision. Charles currently owns a Stripped AR Lower as the host for this build and he lives in WV so he isn't restricted by MD AR Laws and/or Configurations.

I will accept parts donations and funds to buy anything we need to make this happen.

I would like to give credit to those who donate unless they wish to remain anonymous (which I will honor). I can also avoid posting openly who donated, but PLEASE allow me to give Mr Harris your contact info in case he wishes to reach out to you.

I want 100% accountability for ALL items and funds donated so I am going to post a PUBLIC list the just the initials of those who donated.
Here is the Paypal Link for Credit Card Use:

https://www.paypal.me/SOTAR

You can also directly GIFT funds to my paypal, P.M. me for my email address.

Charles also has an AR that is currently is NOT how he wants it to be. It has a California Bullet Button and is quite front heavy. I attached a picture below.

I want to make both guns as "front light" as possible for him. This will make shooting and carrying both AR's more enjoyable for him.

I am also willing to gather AR parts/accessories to help other Veterans and Active Duty Service Members that are part of the AR Shooting Community.

If any of you have other AR parts (No Complete firearms or Lower Receivers) that dont meet the requests above for Douglas, I will accept them and work with Heroes Haven Group and make sure the AR parts find a home that will treasure them.

All Parts, Optic Mounts, Optics, and the Tripod are COVERED via donations.

We saved almost $1000.00 thanks to Vortex helping us out.

Unless I have forgotten to add something, we have met our goal.

You are all amazing. Thank you for making this happen for Douglas.

Let me look into my extra parts box. I know I have a buffer tube as stock in there. I'll get the buffer and buffer spring to make it a kit.

Chad, since I am building a Nosler .22 for one of the September build classes, I purchased five steel ASC 6.8 mags for it. I am more than willing to call Loudoun Guns in Leesburg to get more and I will purchase 4 for him. Please let me know...

oh, I have a Tubbs spring. Will that work in a 6.8? it is the 17-7ph buffer spring for standard AR15 and carbine. If not strong enough then I have an AR or two I was going to put it in anyway
