This may be a dumb question but I can't seem to separate the upper from the lower on a pre ban sporter A2. I must be having a major brain fart. The front take down/ pivot pin is spring loaded and seems like its not made to be removed. What am I missing?

The neither the front or rear take down/pivot pins get fully removed from the lower. They are captured by a detent pin and spring. To separate the upper from the lower you should just have to push the pins. The detent might be tough. Use a brass punch or a loaded round to push the pin.

    Crappy pic.

But it looks like you may need to depress the center shiny part to allow the pin to be pushed out.

Finally got it out. It was tight as hell. Would this pin be original equipment?

He has a PIP pin. You have to push in the center piece and then, while holding it in, pull out the pin. I have one and keep one longer finger nail to slip under the pin to get it out.
