I'm moving back to my kid's place. I can no longer manage on my own.
I will probably sell off most of my guns. Nothing that's verboten in Md. Just a few handguns and a couple of classic hunting rifles.
My question: what's the procedure in Md?
Can I sell to individuals, or does every sale have to go through a transfer?
    Thanks.

Handguns have to go through FFL or MSP transfer.

If you sell them within 90 days of establishing residency, you do not have to register them. Any you don't sell, will need to be registered.

Long guns are still face to face.

Advertise in the classified section as many members here are willing to trust members rather than strangers. That said, approaching 70, I am selling as well for a planned move in 2 years. :sad20:

    Thanks for the info, guys.
Looks like they'll be sold in good old Tennessee.
Oh, I'm 65 but in pretty bad shape. A dissolute life'll do that to you.

That would be the smart move. And glad you have family you can live with, real sorry that has to be in Maryland.

If any of your guns are C&R-eligible (50 years old or older, or on the BATF list) you could list them here and sell them to those of us with FFL03 licenses. you could ship them here via UPS or Fedex, or pay a local FFL in TN to mail them via Priority Mail (which might be the cheapest option, depending on the FFL).

Once in MD, long guns can be sold face to face, except for the MD-forbidden guns - AK47, or AR15 without the HBAR. Handguns would have to go thru a MD FFL, or MSP.
(I don't know if MSP is currently doing transfers for individual sales, or if they're still in hiding from the WuFlu. Anyone aware of current situation please chime in.)

Just to clarify: Marylanders who have an 03 FFL can purchase C&R firearms from outside the state, and have them delivered to their homes, without having anything to do with MSP. If the seller is a MD resident, the federal FFL 03 no longer applies, and the transfer has to go through a Maryland FFL 01 dealer.

Needless to say, C&R collectors prefer avoiding MSP. It adds expense, wastes time, and intrudes on privacy, along with requiring that the purchase be registered on the MD database. IMO, the less involvement with MSP, the better.

The state requires registration of ALL guns? :wtf:
I'm disliking this whole affair more every day!

Where I currently reside we do gun sales, swaps, trades at the breakfast table in our little diners.

    To clarify:

Handguns (only) must be registered within 90 days of establishing residence.

Any long guns declared too evil for MD on the list in the 2013 law cannot enter the state unless you owned them before 1 Oct 2013, if owned before then they must be registered. Beware that the too-evil-for-MD list gets revised at random by the MD State Police with no logic or reason behind the revisions.

Any not-too-evil long guns may be brought with you, not registered, and sold face to face with another MD resident as long as you have no reason to believe the purchaser is prohibited. The face to face sales will go away in January 2021 about 5 minutes after the MD General Assembly convenes when they override the governor's veto of the bill they passed in the 2020 session.

Is there any way you could move to Delaware and avoid most of MD's nonsense?

Someone already answered, but not all.

    Handguns and certain long guns.

Any long guns that do not need to be registered, may be sold face to face.

I would be interested to see what you have and the cost. So please keep us updated. I am also looking to for anyone looking to gift or sponsor as I am a modest person looking to better myself in the gun community until the world is back to normal....Hopefully

    Note to all:

All guns that I sell will be sold locally before I move. I'm close to immobile, so dicking around with transfers, dealers, and shipping is right out. I just can't do it.
    Sorry.
