I took apart my ruger 10/22 for its first cleaning and upon putting it back together cannot seem to get the bolt to release.

I had the bolt locked back when I started cleaning it but it released when I took the trigger group off. I was supposed to have the bolt release when I started so that is mistake number 1.

Mistake number two is that the pin holding the mag and bolt releases fell out.

I put it back in and was able to get the gun back together but the bolt is now stuck in the locked back position.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I ended up calling ruger. I had watched their online assembly video which neglected a key detail which was to make sure the ejector bar is forward, mine was back when I reassembled it.

Suffice it to say I damaged it and they are sending me a new one.

I need to RTFM more carefully next time.

Yep, attention to detail. I had the safety bar rotate on one of mine last month. Been forever since I had the trigger group apart and it took a while to get it back together correctly.

That would have been my guess. One thing that if not assembled correctly can easily jam things up.
