Now that it's looking like the proposed MD AWB expansion is DOA and I don't need to blow through a ton of cash all the sudden, I have been thinking about upgrading my AR-9 PCC to the Taccom ESSB/DBRS magnetically delayed blowback system. I am skeptical it's as good as RDB or the MPX's piston system, but any advantage in terms of keeping that dot steady during recoil seems like a good thing.

You think the mpx rifles are worth the 1,600 bucks, vs the competitors?

I wish the stribog rdb would hurry up already.

With all things, you pay more and more for less and less performance. Which is to say, you can get 80% of the performance for 50% of the cost. But if 100% of the performance is your goal, you're paying 100% of the cost. When I say performance, I don't mean end results. You cannot buy end results; they're mostly a product of skill modified by the platform you're shooting. What you're buying is a product that will let you use your skills to 100%.

That is a long-winded way of saying, yes, I think it's worth it IF you are shooting in a context where maximum performance is a thing.

One other consideration is that if you shoot enough, the cost of the gun is secondary to the cost of ammo. The cost of an MPX PCC is, more or less, eight thousand rounds of quality 9mm. If it's my main competition PCC, chances are good that I am going to be putting way more than that through it over its lifetime between matches and practice. I mean, you can do the math here: if a typical SC match is 125 rounds, and I spend 125 rounds practicing per match, that's 250 rounds for every match. If I shoot 8 matches a year, I'm going to be through 8k rounds in 4 years. It adds up fast.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I like the new model with the timney trigger. Some have taken issue with the folding brace mount being too close to hitting their teeth when shooting it I’ve heard. That’s a concern as well of mine.

    Stribog Update.

Took the Bog out to test some more ammo and practice with it.

Really like the way it shoots. I was nailing mybsteels from about 35 years fairly easily with the red dot.

It runs anything round nosed so far no problem.

This time out I was testing some 147gr HST and some 147 gr PDX1 defender.

It would not even chamber 147gr HST from a full mag. It would jam every time. Bullet pointing upwards jammed into the top of the chamber. Requires a mag drop to remedy. I tried from a half full mag as well as just one round in the mags and couldn’t get it to feed.

At one point I put three HST rounds in the middle of a mag with some PPU 124gr under and over it. For some reason these three cycled and fed fine. I couldn’t get it to feed them outside of this occurrence.

PDX1 Defender 147gr fed and cycles fine. One caveat is I only had a single 20 rd box of this ammo and I loaded it all into one mag and fired it all. I’ll try more testing with it, but it worked flawlessly.

So far no issues with any round nosed ammo: 115gr federal target, 115 S&B, 124gr S&B, 124gr PPU, 150gr S&B, Remington green and white box 115gr target. Runs great with those and probably a few more random ones that I’ve had laying around.

It’s been cleaned and lubed well, magazines were disassembled and lightly oiled with super lube which did allow them to function smoother. It does not seem to have had an impact on making any ammo more reliable.

It has about 500 rounds through it to date. At the start of this session it had 377 rounds through it and had been cleaned and lubed 3 times.

Will report back with more data.

I finally got a chance to hold a Scorpion, MPX K and a CMMG Banshee and decided to get a Banshee. Yesterday, on the way back from the York gun show, I stopped in at Tyler's and ordered a Cmmg 9mm Banshee 300. Hopefully I'll have it in 2 to 3 weeks. :party29:

I'll be really interested to hear your report on the Banshee. I've been leaning towards the scorpion, so I hope you come back on give us your review.

Love my PTR 9ct. I've had it for about a year now and I have had zero issues. Soft shooting, not ammo picky, smile inducing. Just added a brace to my 22lr set up waiting on a tailhook mod 1.

    That looks very nice!!

I’m starting to be interested in the banshee myself. The Bog is fun for the range, but I was really hoping it wouldn’t be as ammo picky as it has been so far. Wondering if a slight chamber reaming would help it.

No AR9 I have ever used has been ammo picky.

That PTR looks like it would be a lot of fun for sure.

The FTF's you described don't have anything to do with the chamber length. The problem is with the geometry between the magazine and the barrel and when the feed lips release the round.

If your 147gn rounds are jamming by pointing upward, the mag is probably releasing the longer bullet earlier than it needs to be. I don't know what kind of feed lips are on your mags but sometimes you can remedy this with a heat gun if you have all plastic mags. I offer this only for use at the range and not for use as a defensive weapon.

So the general consensus is the stribogs like any 115-124 grain ball ammo but nothing else?

I finally broke down and bought one, Dan at Baltimore best pawn had some for a nice deal.

I can’t pick up until next week but I was hoping this thing isn’t a picky little Hooker to shoot.

I’m already looking at after market parts lol.

Who needs a PCC that doesn't like subs?

I’ll be there as well. Don’t have a PCC yet so I’m interested. Trying to decide if I want to build one or go the easy route.
